An odyssey has been defined as a long and eventful or adventurous journey or experience. (https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/odyssey)
Life is an odyssey. It’s an on-going series of events, experiences, and adventures. The road ahead is uncertain and yet we keep moving towards the end of this this road. Why? Because we’re human and we’re curious. Life is uncertain. It can be treacherous but it can also be fun. We take it as a challenge. We continue to trek on an unfamiliar road because we want to see what’s at the end. We want to see if we’re strong enough to make it there.
The road we travel won’t always be perfect. We can’t always skate through life. Life is a road full of bumps, rough spots, dips, cracks and detours. Although this road is full of obstacles, the important thing is to keep moving forward.
Easier said than done right? We just have to tackle problems one at a time. If there’s a crack or a dent, put something on top or fill it in and go over it. If there’s a big bump, tread slowly and carefully but get over it. If there’s something blocking the road, go around it. If there’s a detour, follow it. It might be farther and it might take longer. But in the end, we’ll get to where we want to go. What will define us on this journey is our ceaselessness to persist.
We may fall or get hurt but we can’t give up. We may cry, break down and get tired. We can stop to rest and mend but we have to get back on track. We have to tell ourselves “It’s just a minor setback.” If we want to know what we’re made of, we have to keep pushing forward.
We’ll never know how far we can reach and how much we can accomplish if we give up. We’ll never know just how strong we are until we get to the other side of life’s obstacles. We will only know just how resilient we are when we stop for a moment and look back. We look back at the dents, hurdles, bumps, and other obstacles we’ve been through and say, “I did it. I got this far. I can keep going.”
Today, I look forward to what lies ahead and look back at what I’ve been through to get here. My journey is far from complete. I know there are many more obstacles to come. But I also know what I’m capable of. This is part of my life’s odyssey. This is part of my journey.
Thank you for keeping me company.
